L ' Prague Astronomical Clock or Prague Orloj in Czech Staroměstský Orloj ( watch the old city ) is a medieval astronomical clock located in the city of Prague . The clock is mounted on the south side of City Hall of Old Town in Old Town Square and is one of the most important tourist attractions.

The mechanism consists of three main components: the astronomical dial, on which, over time, representing the position in the sky of the Sun and Moon, along with other astronomical information, the "Walk of the Apostles", a mechanism that on the hour every hour, set in motion the figures representing the 12 Apostles , and a calendar dial with medallions representing the 12 months of the year.

The four figures flanking the clock come alive at the stroke of every hour. Each of them represents the Deadly Sins : the skeleton symbolizes death , the turkish the lust , the character with the mirror embodies vanity and the traveler with the bag (originally a usurer jew, replaced after World War II ) represents the ' avarice . On the hour the skeleton rings a bell by pulling the rope with your right hand and flips the hourglass in which the left, while the turkish turns his head toward the death, at which point the procession comes with twelve apostles (11 Apostle St. Paul) which, in pairs of two by two, bowing to the crowd, windows that bring out the statues are opened simultaneously. The first figure out of the window on the right is St. Paul (with a book in hand and a sword), followed by Thomas (with a spear), that Judas brought a book, Bartholomew and Simon with a saw with a book. While in the second window, leaving Peter (on key), Matthew with an ax, with a snake John, Andrew and Philip with a cross and James with a bat at the end of the show the rooster, sings over the windows clock time played.
